Firefox Persona's

Well all of you know firefox has Persona's so people can customise there Firefox, so my idea is to make a few up so people can use and promote Project Phoenix through screenshots etc

Simply need a top header and bottom image, there is also an adon you can use to test them out.

How many people will actually use a Phoenix Persona? Doubtful many will.

but its getting name out :)

even if its one the site people will see it
Ah, I get what you're saying. Interesting mechanism for advertising.
using what is there and what we have to our advantage ...
I'm sure there are a lot better ways that have a better ROI.
of course there is but for now we have a limited scope on what can be  done ... if you watch the simpsons when Gabbo first came on the advertisements on tv ... just showed Gabbo and hes coming etc small things to make people think, and go what is gabbo, who is gabbo it built the suspense this idea is like that, they see Project Phoenix, and more they see net they see project phoenix, they google it and find say jeffs interview or this site ... small marketing but can be effective ... need to think out of the box :P

For this to work as promotion to new members, I think it'd have to be very attractive, enough for someone to use it although they don't know what it's about when they first see it. Would you use a "John's Garage" persona? No, you don't know them, don't care about them. The only thing that'd make you pick it is if you like how it looks. Heck, if it's ugly, not even supporters will use it. So for this approach to work, it has to be pretty and popular. IMHO.

I agree it needs to be pretty, however we do have some good graphic designers who have signed the CLA, and im positive they will be happy to make a few samples ...

Would be better to wait until it's more mature, though, right?  The kind of users this might attract will be expecting something, not just development.

Speaking of personas, it might be nice if it were that easy for people to change the look of their forum from a basic perspective (with some theme, maybe not default.)

I agree. I wont be designing squat until Phoenix is at least someways into development. :P And even then, I'd have to find time to design. :P

Probably, but I think part of the problem is, well, not everyone can develop. So those who wish to help out in other ways such as marketing, want to be able to do something to contribute while they await the developers to make something great.

Heck, since I probably won't get to develop, I may be willing to help out with the software documentation, but there isn't much I can do without a software there to begin with, and in early alpha stages it will probably change too much for it to be worth documenting anything yet.

Everyone is anxious to get started and work on ideas. While it may be a bit premature, I do think it is great we are already building up the spirit of people wanting to help out.

I like the idea, but I've moved on to Chrome, so I haven't played much with FF/Persona's.

Based on what you told me on the phone, I think we can do something that could be catchy, even though people don't know who we are yet. I mean if a pickle can be the #1 friend on Facebook... anything's possible. :P

Even Chrome has themes these days too ;) Frankly one of the best "marketing" articles would be something from a potential dev in a blog or something of that kind.

Reaching out to those PHP coders who are looking for something to get there teeth into. I am confident there is plenty of people interested in a new way of doing things. This is exactly what our project brings to the table.

An article in A List Apart would help getting the word out, too, but that'd be after it gets released.

I concur.
It's funny you mention Pretty, and John's Garage. Made me think of the "Calendar Hook" tool / auto parts manufactures use as Premiums in service stations. Most are not aware that the Calendar is out of date
but we all remember how hot that girl look holding that socket wrench, and the brand name.

Yes something edgy / colorful / and attractive to the eye from a distance. Not sure about others, but my first experience with Personas, was just that.. I noticed a work-mate with a unique graphic at the top of their browser.

john.. no not the garage owner.. ;)
